Insuring What Matters Most
LIFE INSURANCE
DISABILITY INSURANCE
Unlike health Insurance which covers medical procedures and recovery, a disability policy is a necessary supplement to pay for your everyday bills and living expenses. If you become sick or injured and cannot work, disability insurance provides a monthly benefit to safeguard you against the risk of missing payments on your mortgage, utilities, car and other bills. Around 1 in 4 people will become disabled before they retire. Your ability to earn an income is typically your largest asset. Disability income protection is “paycheck protection” and protects your day-to-day expenses if you can’t work for an extended period of time. Let’s talk!

She researches all viable options and provides the most appropriate product recommendations to meet her client’s specific goals while always being cognizant of the bottom line.
Does it cost anything to utilize your services?
No. There is never a cost to utilize Susan’s services. Should she place any business with an insurance provider on her client’s behalf, the insurance provider will in turn compensate her.
How much does a disability income protection policy cost?
Generally, an individual long term disability policy costs about 1% to 3% of your annual salary. The amount you can expect to pay will depend on several factors such as waiting period, benefit period and the monthly benefit amount you purchase. The amount you can purchase will depend on your earnings.
How long will it take for me to get approved for a life, disability income or long-term care protection policy?
The underwriting process can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months depending on the amount of information that the underwriter needs to gather and how quickly they receive the information from outside sources. On average, the process usually takes about 2 months start to finish.
How do I know how much life insurance I need?
The short answer is generally 10 times your annual income. The long answer requires answering some questions such as:
- Does anyone depend on you financially?
- How much annual income would you need to replace if something were to happen to you?
- How many years would your family need to replace your income and the services you provide if you died suddenly?
- How much debt do you have?
- How much money do you want to provide for your children’s education?
Can I enroll my family in an Affordable Care Act (ACA) plan via the Marketplace anytime of the year?
No. The annual Open Enrollment Period for individuals and families begins November 1st through December 15th for a January 1st effective date each plan year. There are no medical questions, and all pre-existing conditions are covered. If you miss this window of opportunity you will need to wait until the following year’s Open Enrollment period unless you have a Qualifying Event (ie. life events including losing your group health coverage; moving, getting married, having a baby, adopting a child, divorce or if your household income is below a certain amount). A QE will be the only exception to garner ACA coverage outside of the Open Enrollment period.
What is involved to see if I qualify for life, disability income or long-term care protection policy?
As a general rule of thumb, a driver’s license is needed to confirm eligibility during the application process. In addition, the insurance company may ask an independent examining company, at no cost to you, to schedule a convenient time to complete your medical history as well as take your vitals (height; weight; pulse; blood pressure). Depending on the type and amount of coverage a urine sample, blood draw and resting EKG may be required. Sometimes a phone interview is all that is needed.
How many employees do I need to qualify for a small group health insurance policy through my business?
A business needs at least one qualified full-time W-2 employee, besides the business owner, to qualify for a group health insurance plan. Unlike the ACA individual/family plans that are only available from November 1st until December 15th for a January 1st effective date, small business owners can enroll in a group health plan anytime of the year with no pre-existing conditions for any participants.

“Susan is truly the best. A few years ago, I needed health insurance. I was a single 60-year-old man with substantial pre-existing conditions. An individual plan was cost prohibitive. I owned a small business with 3 employees, each having a family. After extensive research, Susan solved my problem by finding a tremendous low-deductible group plan with a reputable provider that cost less than an individual plan. I could not believe it, it was a no-brainer. I gave my employees free health insurance, but I was the one who also reaped the benefits due to now having all my pre-existing health concerns covered. I was ecstatic…and of course my employees were too!”
– Mark H.
“Susan has been my agent for over 2 decades. She listens closely as I discuss my specific needs and has consistently recommended products that always represent my best interests. While we are not related in any way, she treats you like family!“
